Trade Repair Officer


About the Role

An opportunity has become available for a Trade Repair Officer (Defence Maintenance Support Representative) to join our team at Robertson Barracks in Darwin. This role revolves primarily around the provision of maintenance to Defence assets.

This role requires an applicant with excellent communication skills and the ability to operate autonomously under the direction of Ventia Management and prime Defence contacts. The successful applicant, demonstrating the majority of the desirable characteristics to meet the responsibilities of this role, can expect to be supported with training and assistance that may be required to fill potential gaps in their experiences or current skillset.

This opportunity offers 38 hours a week, Monday to Friday (7am - 3:45pm) with an early 12pm finish every Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage maintenance tasks with local providers
  • Conduct parts ordering activities via Defence-mandated IT systems and processes and the subsequent management of this stock.
  • Conduct handover activities and carry out associated receipt/issues processes.
  • Organise on-site repairs through local and interstate  maintenance contractors, and conduct minor technical repairs within scope of trade qualification.
  • Manage off-site maintenance activities through the reviewal of quotes, purchase orders management and invoicing, Quality Assurance (QA) inspections within scope of trade qualification.
  • Liaise positively with key Defence equipment and facility stakeholders.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability and practical experience in maintenance management, quality audits and technical inspection relevant to the work being managed
  • Recognised Trade Certificate III (Engineering - Mechanical, Vehicle-based or Electronic/Electrical or equivalent) -  essential.
  • Previous experience in military maintenance environment (including use of Defence IT systems e.g. - SAP) - desired but not essential
  • Open and clear communication ability within a vast and varied team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and proactively with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to promote a positive SHEQ culture in the workplace
  • You must be an Australian citizen and be able to pass a National Police check to be  eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance.
