About the role:

Join Ventia’s Legal Team as a Senior Legal Counsel and make a significant impact.

You’ll be part of an agile, high performing and collaborative team, reporting directly to the General Counsel – Telecommunications. Enjoy a high degree of autonomy while partnering with operational and commercial colleagues who value your expertise as a trusted advisor.

As a member of the broader Ventia Corporate, Audit, Risk and Legal team, you’ll work alongside motivated and innovative lawyers, recently recognized as the 2023 Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards Infrastructure, Utilities and Energy team of the year.

What you’ll be doing:

As a trusted advisor to commercial, operational and project teams and executives, you’ll deliver outstanding experiences for Ventia’s customers, who are the owners and operators of telecommunications networks and digital infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand.   

  • Provide advice on competitive tenders to Ventia’s customers for network design, construction and maintenance agreements including negotiating with customers.  
  • Advise Ventia’s operational and executive teams about contractual and regulatory risk.
  • Develop strategies for resolving customer, subcontractor and third-party disputes.
  • Provide training on a diverse range of legal and regulatory issues
  • Mentor and coach junior team members.
  • Use AI and innovation to enhance the delivery of legal support to Ventia’s business
  • Work on diverse matters including opportunities to support corporate, governance and M&A projects.

About you:

  • Current Australian practicing certificate with around 10+ years PQE.
  • Private practice and in-house experience highly regarded.
  • A well-developed background in commercial contracts for design, construction and maintenance of critical infrastructure (with experience in telecommunications and digital infrastructure highly regarded).
  • Familiar with key construction, safety and environmental regulation and regulators.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the business.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to develop and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Bring your authentic self to work each day and be passionate about innovation in the delivery of legal services.
