Range Operator


The Company:

Ventia are an operations, maintenance and services organisation operating globally in the resources, energy, industrial, infrastructure, rail, and property and defence sectors. 

The Role:

Ventia are currently looking to engage a Range Operator to providing Range Management services to the Defence Forces. Including the ability to act in an emergency response capacity including fire -fighting.  The Range Operator will undertake Land Management activities including but not limited to grass cutting, tree removal, weed spraying and pest management. This is a permanent fulltime position that will see you based at the Cultana Training Area.
Upon successful completion of relevant certificate & competency training the position will progress to a level 3 range operator.

Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity operating in a Defence Environment is strongly desirable in this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate using a map and compass including highly competent in map to ground navigation from a vehicle.  
  • Competency in communicating on handheld and vehicle mounted radios.
  • The Range Operator will possess the skills or has the ability to acquire the skills to operate portable target systems. Manufacture and repair targets as required.
  • Undertake all Defence prescribed training.
  • Work directly with the appropriate authorities to maintain the operational readiness & security of the Range.

Skills and Experience:

  • Currently holds light vehicle license. 
  • Has a HR Truck License and / or Backhoe or Plant operator’s license (desirable)
  • Bush fire-fighting qualifications (desirable)
  • Certificate in Senior First Aid
  • Well defined written and verbal communication skills.  Basic Computer skills in MS Office applications.

  • Hourly rate including site allowance, laundry allowance, ability to work overtime subject to defence requirements. 
  • 20 days annual leave and a rostered day off per month.
