Data Governance Manager

This role can be based in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra, Darwin or Adelaide.

What you will be doing:
Ventia is experiencing an exciting period of modernisation and the Data Governance Manager is to ensure that the organisation’s data assets are accurately defined, effectively managed and securely protected. This role aims to optimise data quality and facilitate compliant data sharing, thereby enabling the organisation to make data-driven decisions with confidence.

  • Create and implement a data governance roadmap in alignment with organisational goals.
  • Develop and maintain data governance policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with data-related regulations and standards.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance within the organisation to ensure accountability.
  • Oversees initiatives to improve data quality and establish key data definitions.
  • Work closely with IT, legal, cyber and business departments to implement governance strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a category of the organisation’s data assets, including sensitivity classifications.
  • Implement training programs for employees on data governance and compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits of data governance practices and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to align the data governance initiatives with business objectives and needs.

  • Demonstrated experience in understanding data architecture, data modelling and database design.
  • Knowledge of metadata frameworks and their role in data governance.
  • Experience with data quality/data management/data governance software.
  • Skilled in understanding a risk appetite and appropriate levels of delegation and escalation for design and implementation.
  • Experienced in leading, coaching and developing teams to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to manage and facilitate organisational change.
  • Champion of agile ways of working.
