Heavy Vehicle Mechanic


About the role: 

Ventia is one of the largest providers of Defence Maintenance Support Services across Australia. We have over 20 years’ experience delivering support to Australian Defence Force (ADF).
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanics to join our Defence Maintenance Contract (DMC) team in a full-time permanent capacity with good work life balance on offer.

 What you will be doing:

  • Scheduled and unplanned maintenance tasks including inspection, preventative servicing, fault diagnostics, plus a wide range of repairs on light, medium and heavy military vehicles, plant and support equipment, ranging from light box trailers all the way up to jet-turbine ABRAMS Main Battle Tanks.
  • Routine condition inspections/reports (aka ‘roadworthy’ inspections), modifications and upgrades on a wide range of military vehicles like armoured 4WD's, trucks, tracked and other heavy armoured vehicles, infantry personnel carriers etc.
  • Replacing or repairing damaged/malfunctioning parts following inspection. And performing work of a technical nature, on a wide range of military equipment.
  • Successful applicants will adhere to all regulatory and contract specific requirements, as directed by Technical Supervisors.

 About you: 

  • Certificate III in Heavy Road Transport Mechanical Technology or equivalent is essential. (Australian recognised qualifications and experience in maintaining steering, braking and suspension systems on heavy, road-going assets is a mandatory prerequisite for this position)
  • Demonstrated experience working unsupervised on Heavy commercial vehicles. (essential)
  • Current Australian HR Driver's Licence. (essential)
  • Demonstrated ability and practical experience to inspect, repair and maintain Light, Medium and/or Heavy vehicle to a medium level of repair. (desirable)
  • Refrigerant handling licence. (desirable) 

Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen.
