BHP’s LGBT+ employee inclusion group

BHP

At BHP, we want to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace for all. It’s part of bringing your whole self to work.

Jasper is BHP’s employee inclusion group for BHP’S lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and others (LGBT+) community and its allies.

The group’s name Jasper was inspired by the mineral jasper– known for its unique multi-coloured patterns. This characterisation reflects the rich diversity of the LGBT+ community.

Formally endorsed by the BHP Executive Leadership Team and Global Inclusion and Diversity Council in 2017, Jasper’s aim is to drive a safe and inclusive work environment for everyone by providing advice on ways to reduce bias and ensure LGBT+ people are respected and valued no matter their sexual or gender identity.

Jasper is open to all employees whether they be LGBT+ identifying or an ally.

Scott's Story:

In the lead up to International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on 17 May, we spoke to Scott Lester, Vice President Functions and Marketing in our Finance team.

As he approaches his 20th year with BHP, Scott reflects on how powerful it is feeling comfortable enough to bring your whole self to work, and why occasions like IDAHOBIT, which recognise a spectrum of sexual and gender identities, are so important.
