Claims Consultant - Health and Benefits

The Role

This role will be responsible for Life and Personal Accident claims advocacy though the provision of technical advice and support, settlement negotiations and problem solving. Proactively managing claims with carriers on behalf of clients, leveraging understanding of claims processes, procedures and laws. It will also provide general advice to clients on validity of claims and appropriate claim strategy and work in partnership with the Client Consultant (Health & Benefits) as required.

This is a part-time role working three days per week. There is flexibility around which days the successful candidate prefers. The location of the role can be Melbourne or Sydney.

  • Oversee allocated claims or clients including major and complex claims
  • Provide advice and support to clients in the negotiation and settlement of a claim
  • Negotiate for clients with insurers
  • Engage with all parties to resolve coverage disputes through in-depth policy knowledge, current case law and industry practices and trends
  • Provide claims advice to clients and internal stakeholders in relation to reporting & monitoring of claims activity, claims reviews/audits, advice on industry claims experience
  • Provide claims specific input to a client tender process (Request For Proposal), working with the client advocate
  • Provide technical expertise and mentoring to assist development of Claims Advisors and associates in Manila.
  • Monitor claims progress to ensure follow up with insurers and timely resolution of the claim
  • Monitors the end-to-end claims process to ensure high quality service is achieved
  • Provides structured data for the business to use to provide excellent service to our clients

The Requirements

  • Extensive experience in all aspects of end to end claims process, specific process requirements and client and carrier engagement, including adjudication process/ procedures
  • Deep knowledge of (group life, salary continuance and personal accident), class claims and the law and case precedent applicable to this class
  • Working towards a professional insurance qualification
  • Holds all regulatory licences, permissions and technical or other requirements applicable under local legislation
  • The ability to build strong relationships with clients, brokers and insurers
  • Excellent influencing, negotiation, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present to clients and prospective clients your claims expertise
  • Extensive claims expertise in loss prevention / claims mitigation techniques
  • Coaching and mentoring of team members
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel and Word)

Candidates must have either Australian or New Zealand citizenship or an appropriate permanent working visa.
