ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Dispute Resolution Group managing a range of disputes and litigation across Telstra. 

SOME OF THE SPECIFICS AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work independently to advise on and assist in the resolution of disputes;
  • Advising on and assuming carriage of a range of litigation ranging from smaller commercial disputes, workers compensation disputes to complex commercial disputes in a range of jurisdictions including the Federal Court of Australia, the state Supreme Courts, Local Courts, Administrative Appeals Tribunal and various consumer Tribunals.
  • Providing commercially focused and strategic advice to the business in relation to the resolution of a range of disputes.
  • Advise on a broad range of legal issues including general principles of Corporations Law compliance with the Telecommunications Act, the Australian Competition and Consumer Law and the Privacy Act.
  • Prepare Court documents, including Statements of Claim, Defences, submissions and witness statements.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING                

You will require a current practicing certificate and have a solid Dispute Resolution background in a well-regarded law firm or in-house team with experience dealing with a range of disputes. You will be an excellent communicator able to offer commercially focused and practical solutions to legal issues, particularly when dealing with complex disputes.

In addition, you will require:

  • Experience in managing and conducting litigation in a range of jurisdictions. 
  • The ability to draft Court documents such as pleadings and Affidavits. 
  • the ability to make legal advice easy to understand and commercially focused with clear recommendations
  • Good forensic and investigative skills, including the ability to formalise evidence. 
  • Ability to advise confidently on a range of issues.
