Defence Cyber Security Operations Team Manager

Telstra’s Operations unit is responsible for all aspects of the design, engineering, architecture, construction, and operation of Telstra networks, technology and information technology, plus the delivery of customer services. We're working hard to become a world-class technology & service organisation and are looking for an exceptional Defence Cyber Security Operations Team Manager to join our Cyber Security division.

In this role you will manage the cyber security operations team consists of a team of information and cyber security specialists to protect enterprise and clients information systems, applications and networks from theft or damage. The cyber security operations team play a vital part in providing IT Security services for the Telstra managed Defence network through the detection of Cyber Security Incidents and leading Incident Response activities.

Your key responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Leading the Security Operations team on Telstra’s engagement with the Defence Terrestrial Communications Network (DTCN).
  • Manage the overall team planning and execution of Security Architecture, Incident Management and Security testing projects.
  • Lead teams in developing and managing network security systems to protect against potential risk or vulnerability in networks, including periodic review and audit activities
  • Provide guidance in implementing security policies and procedures to protect Telstra or clients information systems, applications and networks from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and data information
  • Supervise team members, prioritising and assigning tasks to ensure that team resources are used effectively and projects are implemented in accordance with project plans and budgets
  • Mentor, coach and provide technical leadership to team members, responding to more complex and escalated issues and incidents from team members
  • Ensure the team is positioned at all times to respond effectively to Security Incidents.
  • Collaboration and communication with broader team on improving the Security posture for the customer.

What we are looking for:

To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience and qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an ICT Security Role.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team.
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian Government Security Requirements (Information Security Manual (ISM)).
  • Strong firewall and networking background
  • Industry certifications such as: CCNA, CISSP, CISM, GIAC, and strong Security product knowledge and experience (especially SIEM products) will be highly regarded
  • Due to the nature of the role, successful candidate must currently hold and be able to maintain Negative Vetting 2 Security Clearance
