The Opportunity

The Deals Analytics team bring this to life by providing services across the entire deal life cycle (strategy, acquisition, integration and divestment). Our analytics team focuses on the application of data analytics & technology within this broader business typically in the following situations:

  • to help increase our clients' confidence in deals using data analytics
  • to help identify and quantify potential optimisation opportunities post deal
  • increase transparency and efficiency through dynamic board reporting

As a Senior Consultant, you will be supporting a broad range of client engagements, stretching yourself across many different industry sectors and engaging directly with company management and investors.
Your first assignment could see you working with senior finance staff of ASX listed or Private Equity backed businesses to for example:

  • Support investors to secure financing on a high profile acquisition
  • Assess shareholder return by implementing rapid analytics to assess the value drivers of the target business
  • Understand the performance of different customers and products by applying techniques such as cohort analysis and clustering, which can be a one off exercise or for ongoing use
  • Making sense of various information streams (e.g. extracts from client systems, management reports, contracts, external data) and turning them into structured data that can be analysed as part of a Deal process (through data extraction & transformation processes)
  • Exploring data to uncover trends and themes through data analysis & visualization
  • Creating engaging and insightful outputs in the form of presentations summarising key findings
  • Clear and concise communication of the findings of your analyses to senior management (internal & external) from both technical & non-technical backgrounds
  • Researching new products and tools, and implementing suitable techniques to solve the specific client problem and deal with potential data availability, quality or accuracy

About you
We are looking for people who are passionate about applying their analytical skills to deliver commercial insights to our clients. To be considered you should have a strong academic record (from bachelor degree equivalent or higher) in a technical or analytical based subject (e.g. Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Maths, Statistics, Finance etc).
Your colleagues can vouch that you:

  • Have strong problem solving skills
  • Passion for applying technology & committed to self-development
  • Possess financial and commercial acumen and the ability to analyse data and use this to provide insight and advice to our clients, understanding the key drivers of a business and the client problem we are trying to solve - and able to clearly communicate analysis and issues
  • Understanding of data extraction & transformation including common data quality problems and their solutions, and analysis & visualisation skills – including familiarity with typical software used for this, e.g. Microsoft Excel power query/pivot, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL

The following skills are also desirable but not expected:

  • Experience with application of advanced analytics or statistics to business problems (including for example use of R, SAS, python analytics libraries)
  • Ability to deliver rapid, pragmatic, value orientated advice and tools in a consulting environment
  • Experience with assisting business development activities through working on bids and proposal responses
  • Experience working in a deal environment;
  • An understanding of basic accounting principles
