Consulting lawyer - Banking & Finance / Derivatives and Structured Finance

Peerpoint is looking to add to its financial services panel in Australia to match demand from leading financial institutions. These roles will suit highly-skilled and self-driven (common law qualified) lawyers with top tier technical experience in:

  • general banking / corporate finance;
  • derivatives / OTC derivatives regulation;
  • structured finance / leveraged finance;
  • financial markets compliance implementation;
  • funds and investment management; or
  • project and infrastructure finance.

Key requirements

  • A right to work and reside in Australia
  • Qualified to practice in Australia – unrestricted – and willingness to set up an Incorporated Legal Practice or engage on a contractual basis
  • A minimum of four years' post-qualification experience at a top tier law firm in your area of expertise
  • In-house legal experience at leading financial services institutions/corporates preferred (directly or as a secondee)
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in a common law jurisdiction highly regarded
  • Self-starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant and a drive to achieve at a high level whilst working as a consultant
  • Adept at leading or working within complex multi-functional, multi-national project environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally
  • Client service-focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Resilient, adaptable, autonomous and highly credible
  • Advanced organisational skills and diplomacy

Client assignments can range from stepping into a team to support a project to taking on a senior legal role or within a BAU in-house capacity. Working with both international and domestic financial institutions assignments are usually two to six months in duration and tend to require you work a minimum of four days per week.

You may also have the opportunity to work within Allen & Overy on an ad-hoc basis, supporting teams when needed or joining them for fixed periods to work on a deal.
