NSW Telco Authority is working with government agencies, and other partners to design and build the next generation of critical and non-critical operational communications services for NSW Government agencies, to better enable them to service and protect NSW communities.

This includes the Critical Communications Enhancement Program (CCEP), with an investment of $320 million by NSW Government, across four years to build an enhanced government radio network, a key role in the development of a national Public Safety Mobile Broadband (PSMB) capability, and the Regional Digital Connectivity and NSW Mobile Black Spot program among
others.

About the Role
We are currently looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for designing and managing the electrical aspects of telecommunications radio site infrastructure. This role also provides input, direction and governance to internal and external stakeholders in site design matters, and improving guidelines and compliance associated with telecommunications infrastructure. You will be required to provide your expertise across various programs, including CCEP, BAU and Strategic Programs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Electrical upgrade reviews (and where appropriate suggest better or more cost-effective solutions)
  • Represent TA as SME for any electrical, power, solar or battery queries from internal and external stakeholders
  • Power calculations, battery dimensioning and electrical design for new BAU sites and future needs
  • Review colocation applications related to additional power and air con load.
  • Assessing, recommending and sourcing power generators
  • Prepare and update guidelines related to power, electrical, solar, batteries and air conditioning
  • Solar power guidance and solution refinement
  • Lithium batteries procurement activities
  • Methanol fuel cells investigation and proposal
  • Keep abreast of emerging power and battery technology and provide advice accordingly. This could include advancements such as more efficient solar technology, Lithium-ion solid state batteries, micro supercapacitor cells, lithium-air batteries, aluminium-air batteries and micro fuel cells.
  • Represent TA as SME for any electrical, power, solar or battery activities and provide strategic advice to TA and in some cases, our agencies.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Degree in electrical or related engineering.
  • At least 8 years experience with at least 5 years experience working on wireless telecommunications networks.
  • Travel will be occasionally required to various radio sites throughout NSW – typically no more than 5% of time
  • Proactive in finding problems before they happen, coming up with solutions and driving solution implementation
  • Willing to take ownership of issues and drive resolution
  • Ability to be concise is valued. CVs to be maximum 3 pages.

Some highly desirable skills to set you apart in your application:

  • Experience in a telecommunications network rollout environment.
  • Field experience in terms of being able to troubleshoot electrical issues of a base station installation.
