In-house Lawyer

Nielsen is looking to hire an In-house Lawyer to help us negotiate contracts for the Pacific region. Pacific region is diverse and exciting region and is also very busy.

The tasks also involves working with precedents, drafting, negotiating, and amending company agreements with clients, retailers, suppliers and others for Australia and New Zealand. 

On occasion the lawyer may be called upon to cover work in the larger Asia Pacific region when other regional lawyers are not available or on annual leave.

This role will support on client service teams operating in the FMCG, Sports and Media industries and provide ad-hoc advice to a multitude of stakeholders on a daily basis in a timely manner.

The person will need to be able to quickly appreciate the fast-paced nature of the industry and corresponding depth or complexity of the advice sought and respond accordingly (or provide guidance).

Having a well-established precedents database means that the person is expected to quickly navigate within the set precedents and adhere to the global drafting standards.

Typical contracts would include Master Services Agreements, Licence Agreements, Supplier Agreements, Third Party Access Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements. The lawyer must be comfortable with a fast paced and high volume environment.

The lawyer will interact regularly with Chief Regional Counsel other company legal personnel and client service and finance teams across the region to ensure that contract and the negotiation processes meet the needs of a dynamic growing business and an expanding client base.  


Ideal Candidate must have

  • Excellent writing and communication skills (both contract drafting and the ability to explain legal provisions to non-lawyers)
  • Ability to work independently and to learn the business quickly in order to identify key issues and priorities.
  • Able to formulate creative solutions to resolve negotiation sticking points and bring deals to a prompt close.
  • Mature and able to work independently with minimal supervision but be sufficiently experienced to know when to escalate matters to the Chief Regional Counsel or to the appropriate business leads depending on the matter.
  • No knowledge of foreign law is required but some experience handling Asia Pacific legal matters would be beneficial.


  • 4 years post qualification experience minimum
  • Good knowledge of contracts law, licensing arrangements, corporations law, privacy law, intellectual property is desirable
  • Prior exposure to or appreciation of corporate governance frameworks; ability to apply and interpret a suite of corporate polices, codes and in-house rules to legal matters and tasks at hand
  • Must have an unrestricted practicing certificate
