Senior Legal Counsel

Starting with KPMG as a Senior Legal Counsel, you will take on a senior role within a remediation managed services program, managing a small team of lawyers, supporting the operational teams and providing astute commercial legal advice to our external clients. 

This role will see you providing on site support for our clients throughout Sydney, at HQ in Barangaroo or within our Remediation Operations Center out at Rhodes.

Your major responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing a team of Lawyers
  • Providing commercially relevant legal advice to KPMG's remediation operations, including assessing legal risks and providing options to enable the firm to make informed choices
  • Liaising with financial institutions on a regular basis re policy/regulatory/customers/complex products etc;
  • Handling highly complex issues, vulnerable customers and AFCA; 
  • Participate effectively in key business projects including identification and management of legal risks within projects
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in relation to legal, regulatory, compliance and policy;
  • Acting as a member of the Exceptions Panel and assisting in settling difficult and unique cases and issues.

Permanent and 12 month fixed term positions are available.

How are you Extraordinary?

  • Minimum 5 years’ post qualification experience (PQE)
  • Financial Advice Law experience mandatory (retail distribution is the main source of experience required)
  • Demonstrated experience leading a small team of Lawyers
  • Remediation experience highly valued
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Thrive in a high pressure, fast paced environment
