Lawyer - Technology, Data & IP

KPMG Australia is part of a global network providing extensive services across a wide range of industries and sectors. Our people collaborate, share their expertise and create innovation as we partner with clients to solve complex challenges, empower change, drive disruption and growth.

The creation of KPMG Law flows naturally from KPMG’s long history of successfully delivering multidisciplinary services to clients. Core corporate, commercial, M&A, intellectual property, data and cyber, technology, real estate, employment and financial services law teams already form part of our Commercial Law offering. KPMG is continuing to invest in KPMG Law to ensure that we have the right people and technology to support our clients.

The Technology, Data and IP team has deep experience supporting IT & outsourcing projects, the technology and IP aspects of M&A and similar transactions, assisting with data breach response and privacy issues including GDPR and assisting clients with their commercialisation activities.

We work alongside colleagues from across all of KPMG to deliver an integrated service to our clients.

Your Opportunity

As a lawyer ready to take the next step in their career, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a firm experiencing significant growth and heavily focused on investing in its people. You will:

  • provide fully integrated transactional advice in relation a range of IT and outsourcing transactions – providing our clients with legal advice that runs alongside and integrated with the firm’s advisory teams
  • provide intellectual property structuring and commercialisation advice – providing our clients with commercial and pragmatic advice on how to manage their critical IP assets
  • support our clients with managing their data, privacy issues (including GDPR) and data breaches
  • provide legal input into consulting projects – inputting into joint venture, transformation or other operational change projects, alongside our management consulting teams

How are you Extraordinary?

At KPMG, we believe diversity of thought, background and unique experience strengthens relationships and delivers meaningful benefits to our people, our clients and communities.

What KPMG Law is looking for in their lawyers:

  • adaptable, self-starting personalities who are keen to work outside the ‘traditional’ law firm model in a new, developing area of the legal sector
  • great teammates who enjoy collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
  • approachable people who are keen to develop personally and professionally, and to assist with the development of junior team members
  • technical excellence and an interest in practising across all aspects of technology, IP and data
  • intellectually curious, open-minded and analytical people, with an eye for detail and pride in their work
  • committed and enthusiastic professionals who deliver a great service to their clients
  • relationship builders who can spot and develop new opportunities both within the KPMG network and externally
  • flexible people who are able to deal with a fluid, changing work environment

It is expected that you will be an Australian-qualified lawyer with a minimum 4 years’ PQE experience, several years of which should have been gained at a reputable firm (but applicants with other suitable experience will also be considered). Strong academic, technical, drafting and personal skills are important.
