An exciting opportunity exists for a Mechanical Site Engineer based in Khancoban, to provide technical expertise in mechanical engineering in support of major overhauls, onsite and off site component repairs, including involvement in defining the specifications and designs for major overhaul work. You will provide technical and quality support during both overhauls and the equipment repair process to ensure that the assets meet project and long-term reliability and availability requirements for the business.

Dependant on business priority and the location of overhauls, there may be a requirement for regular travel to other regional sites to provide engineering support.

Reporting to the Outage Manager (Major Overhauls), you will:

  • Provide timely and accurate engineering advice with respect to major overhaul work.
  • Confirm that engineering design & specifications for overhauls comply with design, quality, and performance outcomes.
  • Perform condition assessment and timely defect investigation, root cause analysis and repair methodology on turbines, mechanical transmissions, hydraulic / pneumatic systems, & auxiliaries.
  • Provide expertise and know-how to the team in the performance of discrete tasks with specific input to risk management plans.
  • Deliver accurate & timely reporting on project productivity & issues arising in a proactive manner providing control strategies.
  • Manage Technical Queries and respond to initiators with resolution in a timely manner.
  • Regularly discuss & encourage work practice improvements, repair specifications with Operations, Asset Management and Engineering team members
  • Confirm Quality Control deliverables are managed and comply with contract specification. Initiate Non-Conformances where required and define resolution with provider to address.
  • Confirm Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Inspection Record Sheets (IRSs) are available for all recordable measurements and Hold Points.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree specialising in large industry Rotating Equipment or Power Generation.
  • Relevant site engineering experience
  • Proven mechanical engineering capability to review and assess designs, and recommend design adjustments as necessary to meet the site requirements.
  • Experience with large scale rotating machinery, or multi-discipline projects in construction, mining, power or similar industries.
  • Onsite management and interaction skills to successfully supervise contracts and influence contract deliveries.
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary team environment, with specialist knowledge of the design, operation and maintenance of hydro assets.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of an organisation and external stakeholders.
  • Well developed, proven and demonstrated analytical and research skills.
  • Sound knowledge of WH&S, EEO and Environmental Policies and standards.
  • Demonstrated alignment to Snowy Hydro's corporate values and behaviours.
