This position is based at Khancoban NSW and is not a DIDO or FIFO arrangement.

This role will assist in the identification of the root causes of defects and develop and implement immediate, interim and long term regional plant improvement projects and strategies. The successful applicant will also work closely with the Maintenance and Asset Engineering teams to safely deliver high availability and reliability of regional assets in the most effective and efficient way.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing troubleshooting, root cause analysis, data capture, and corrective actions for plant defects, breakdowns, and other technical plant issues.
  • Determining technical methodologies and instructions for planned and unplanned corrective work.
  • Delivering improvements including initiation, design, planning and minor project delivery within discipline and competence levels.
  • Preparing Quality Control, Commissioning and Inspection and Testing Plans for complex and non-standard work.
  • Understanding the condition of the mechanical plant and what the key plant risks are.
  • Collaborate with the relevant engineering teams for the development of the longer term asset strategy, maintenance strategy, and delivery of capital projects.
  • Undertake engineering level plant condition assessments.
  • Performing analysis of plant performance (Breakdowns, Defects, Alarms, Start Time) and maintenance execution (Tasks, Spares, Labour, Outage Duration, Callouts) to identify and prioritise improvement and corrective work.
  • Implementing maintenance plan improvements and initiating Maintenance Strategy changes as identified in Maintenance and Defect Root Cause Analysis.
  • Coaching and mentoring graduates and vacation students as necessary.
  • Leading by example when it comes to technical understanding, work management (e.g. work requests, knowledge capture) and following business processes (e.g drawing management, change management, commissioning, risk assessment).

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in plant reliability in heavy industry, power generation or similar industries
  • Knowledge of maintenance plan requirements, analysis techniques and maintenance management practices including Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) processes
  • Demonstrated fault-finding and plant diagnostic skills including Root Cause Analysis processes
  • The ability to communicate with a range of personnel to provide a consistent, reliable and high level of service
  • A high level of enthusiasm for plant based engineering
  • Alignment to Snowy Hydro's Corporate values and behaviours
