CSIRO’s Autonomous Sensors Future Science Platform (AS FSP) focuses on accelerating the generation of new tools to grow the digital decision making within domains, combining fundamental sensor research with autonomous engineering solutions to provide new advanced sensing and platform technologies for the environmental monitoring, health monitoring, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing domains. Supported by this AS FSP and CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) business unit, this multi-faceted role has a particular focus on autonomous systems for marine observations.
As a Marine Autonomy Engineer, you will play a critical role in the next phrase of the marine autonomy research projects, particularly with the implementation of robotic control in field testing. You will bring your expertise to develop electromechanical payloads to integrate fit for purpose sensors onto autonomous platforms in the marine environment, as well as observing and evaluating performance in the field. Working within the Engineering & Technology (E&T) program, and as part of a talented multidisciplinary team, you will be developing and testing models that will meet real world science objectives, allowing CSIRO to remain at the forefront of effective and efficient surveying, exploration, management, and intervention of the marine environment, which are all important for understanding and preventing threats posed to Australia’s ecology and biodiversity.
