The Opportunity: Corporate Counsel

We are seeking a talented individual to join Aon’s legal team – based in Sydney - as a Corporate Counsel.

The Corporate Counsel (Commercial) will be a member of the Aon Law Division reporting to the Head of Commercial Law. The Corporate Counsel will provide professional support to the business including timely advice and a range of commercial and transactional legal services.

What your day will look like

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements ensuring that agreed terms are consistent with Aon Group’s risk profile.
  • Advising on diverse legal and compliance matters including financial services regulatory changes, general commercial and insurance related matters, general commercial arrangements, privacy law and intellectual property.
  • Providing legal assistance on a range of projects, service offerings and operational matters.
  • Building collaborative and productive working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders within and outside Aon.
  • Reviewing and providing legal approval for all marketing material and related collateral for external publication.
  • Monitoring new and changing laws and regulations and providing advice and gap analyses against current practises in relation to those laws and regulations.
  • Solving unique and complex legal questions calling for conceptual and innovative thinking and problem solving.
  • Communicating legal requirements effectively including persuading and negotiating optimal outcomes.
  • Good time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Representing Aon as its ambassador in a positive manner and robustly promoting Aon’s values and leadership model.

Aon's legal team operate under a hybrid model, with the option to work from home 2-3 times a week.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

The ideal candidate will have 5 years PQE in a top or middle tier law firm and/or in-house legal department.

  • Previous relevant corporate and commercial experience or general insurance sector and/or financial services sector experience required.
  • Specific knowledge of insurance law in Australia preferred.
  • Strong analytic skills, including the ability to analyse and discern issues, risks and solutions.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately and handle multiple engagements, processes and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work with others under pressure and to resolve differences in a constructive manner.
  • Be culturally sensitive and empathetic across all levels of Aon and Aon clients.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to optimally communicate ideas to sophisticated internal clients together with ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to process sensitive and highly confidential information with discretion.
  • A proactive and self-disciplined approach.
