The Project

The M80 Ring Road Alliance (comprising ACCIONA, MACA, and AECOM) has been selected to design and construct the M80 Ring Road Completion.

The project will deliver a major upgrade of the M80 Ring Road between the M80-Plenty Road interchange and the North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia, providing a seamless connection to North East Link. Works includes 2km of new freeway upgrade, 3km of new freeway, separation of local roads from the freeway, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, urban design and landscaping. This diverse and challenging project will be complete in 2028.

Key accountabilities for the position

  • Support the Engineering Manager to plan and control the delivery of construction design and technical support to ensure the achievement of Alliance Objectives
  • Coordinate the interaction of project members in the design development and construction delivery process, including design, construction, planning, environment, sustainability, quality Temporary Works, Trafic Engineering, and Systems Engineering
  • Review and influence Design and Construction Methodologies to optimise Outcomes.
  • Coordinate the change management process within the allocated Zone.
  • Monitor and evaluate the work of technical service providers to ensure that their progress meets requirements
  • Assist in the design and construction approval process by coordinating issue resolution
  • Work in conjunction with the Engineering Manager around project resourcing and coordination of internal and external service providers
  • Assist with management and coordination of client and stakeholder requirements and expectations and communicate effectively with the project team.
  • Manage work and performance of subcontractors engaged by the Engineering Team
  • Provide mentoring and training to junior engineers as well as graduates and cadets

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Tertiary qualified in civil/structural/mechanical engineering or similar
  • Experienced managing and coordinating design in support of large complex civil infrastructure or rail related projects ideally with experience on contractor and consultant sides
  • Advanced communication skills and an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of people not limited to, subcontractors, local authorities, internal staff and client representatives.
  • Experienced in managing complex design challenges and looking for value adding solutions
