Head of Group Operational Risk & Compliance

  • Oversee the consistent implementation and embedding of the Bank’s approach to operational risk and compliance.
  • Act as custodian of the Group’s Risk Appetite Statement
  • Use compliance and operational risk data and analysis to drive improvements in the approach to risk management across ANZ

About The Role
Role Location: Melbourne
Role Type: Permanent, Full-time

As the Head of Group Operational Risk & Compliance, you will

lead ANZ’s approach to two key CPS220 risks of compliance and operational risk through the strengthened capability and accountability of risk management across ANZ. This will be achieved through:

  • Ongoing development of the framework, including design, direction, key risks and controls
  • Delivering an approach to the implementation of the Framework, so that it is simple, flexible and data driven in driving business decisions
  • Ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, and gathering insights and providing perspective on the risk management environment
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of risk management decisions and challenging where appropriate
  • Supporting the ongoing development of COR and the required reporting
  • Influencing Exco and the ANZ Board to drive better risk and compliance outcomes

In addition, you will review and challenge operational risk and compliance for the corporate centre (Finance, Talent & Culture, Group Risk) and Group Services (including Service Centres); own the 2nd line perspective of how well operational risk and compliance is being managed in driving business decisions.

As a member of the Group Compliance Leadership Team and the Compliance Council, you must be forward thinking, work collaboratively and inspire to ensure a strong and mature compliance culture.


About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualified with extensive experience in banking with exposure to data reporting and analytics preferable, including familiarity with prudential oversight reporting.
  • Strong ability to a lead a control function, own their perspectives and challenge where appropriate.
  • Builds trusted advisory relationships across the organisation with a strong ability to influence and succeed through collaboration.
  • Thinks strategically and commercially, drives an adaptive, agile risk culture and motivates organisational change.
  • Able to leverage digital technology and data to enable faster and more effective decision making.
  • Sound appreciation of all aspects of compliance and operational risk.
