Product Forensics


Our purpose is to ensure we do the right thing by our customers, to build and sustain a trusting relationship with them.


The unit achieves this by focuses on the promises made to our customers across the broad and complex portfolio of Retail and Commercial Banking products. In doing so, we fulfil our mission through the ongoing prevention and detection of “the unexpected” so that the customer experiences are seamless and reliable.


Our scope:


  • We perform product analytics to detect and prevent “the unexpected” across the Retail and Commercial Bank product portfolio to drive continuous improvement and have a positive influence on the strategic change to banking systems, operations and product management.

  • We build continuous monitoring mechanism to proactively manage, prevent and detect product risks across the Retail and Commercial bank to drive action.

  • We upskill Product areas in “data analytics” to enable self-sufficiency in Product Analytics and Forensics capabilities.

  • We influence the ongoing evolution of Product Management and Risk Management Framework, Policy, Process and Procedure through our analytical endeavours into the “customer promise” across our product portfolio.



As a Chapter Lead, you are also responsible for building world class capability in your chapter. You’ll be a promoter and ambassador of the new culture and ways of working. You will bring domain knowledge or deep expertise on a specific topic and develop this expertise and T-shaped capability in your chapter members. Along with Product Owners and coaches, Chapter Leads care for and nurture the growth of their chapter members to ensure they are inspired by a sense of purpose and are continually building their mastery and autonomy. Chapter Leads are not full-time managers, they work as a squad member for ~50% of their time and manage people (across squads) for ~50% of their time.



What might a day in the life look like?


  • Address and solve complex business issues using large amounts of data
  • Develop advanced algorithms that transform key business processes and automate banker decisions and activities
  • Implement a fact-based culture throughout the bank; Fact base will contain Customer, Operational, Commercial, Market place, Regulatory inputs aligned to business objectives
  • Continuous generation, monitoring, presenting and conducting of 'fact-based' analysis of relevant customer insights to use at any time for the development and improvement of relevant and innovative propositions
  • Effectiveness to quickly understand the behaviour (expected/unexpected) behaviour of large data sets.
  • Effectiveness to translate business rules and product collateral into functional data requirements and product forensic tests.
  • Effectiveness to draw out insights and present outcomes for data driven decision making
  • Effectiveness to clearly communicate and present ideas and outcomes to technical and non-technological stakeholders.
  • Perform data analysis within different Tribes in order to support individual missions of Squads
  • Generate, monitor, present and analyse relevant customer insights, costs, benefits, and risks for customers, clients and cohort products; this could include business casing, what if scenarios and opportunity sizing & assessments
  • Develop tools and methods to fully profile customers and customer segments
  • Source data from a variety of sources to combine, synthesise and analyse to generate insights
  • Initiate, design and implement innovative trends in the field of data science and analysis.
  • Lead, Optimise, Design and execute business interventions (customers and operational) to uplift customer engagement and business performance


What will be in your toolkit?


  • Analytical and inquisitive mindset to continuously improve the level of insight surfaced
  • Strong business acumen to translate data insights into practical and actionable recommendations
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with tools and techniques for analysis and data manipulation (e.g. Teradata, Hadoop, Python, Pyspark, Cloudera)
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in the use of Jira, Confluence and Zephyr
  • Strong data visualisation skills (e.g. QlikSense, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all stakeholders (technical and non-technical)
  • Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience in building up a specialised analytical capability


Domain Competency


Experience in working with Retail and Commercial banking products is advantageous. You will at least have a deep understanding of the product mechanics of one or more Retail or Commercial banking product type, or an equivalent understanding of other types of product which are highly complex, of a service/intangible nature and reliant upon multiple systems in which to operate.


Previous experience in working in analytical environments such as management consulting, customer analytics, risk analytics and / or revenue assurance is advantageous.

  • A true analyst will always question results and continue to investigate until all scenarios have been identified, mapped and tested. Therefore a natural curiosity combined with an analytical mindset is key to your success in the role.
