About the Role

The Commercial Manager Gas & Renewables position has the responsibility for Source to Contract strategies and commercial management of strategic contracts relating to the Gas & Renewables (G&R) division of AGL’s Group Operations.

You will achieve this through effective collaboration with key G&R stakeholders and AGL procurement representatives to develop strategic plans for addressable spend and provide dynamic procurement leadership in delivery of commercial outcomes whilst ensuring governance across G&R supplier activity. In addition, the role will be the procurement business partner to the G&R LT to ensure alignment to the division’s strategic objectives.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Key areas of focus include; planning, stakeholder engagement, sourcing and negotiations, within the governance requirements outlined in AGL’s P2P Policy & Standards.

  • Development and approval of financial year Procurement Plans aligned to the business and stakeholder requirements of the G&R division, working in collaboration with peers to agreed ways of working to ensure an effective use of procurement resourcing across the wider GO Procurement team
  • Delivery of procurement plans and subsequent approval of identified benefits that contribute to the cost reduction targets of G&R
  • Partnering with business stakeholders in the development of effective sourcing strategies and leading negotiations with suppliers to achieve the required benefit and risk outcomes; managing strategic relationships across AGL Group Operations and Supplier stakeholders
  • Executing sourcing activity within the requirements of the project timelines, ensuring GMs and EGM are informed on key milestone activities for strategic projects and communication to other relevant stakeholders
  • Leadership and coaching of direct reports to support development requirements and training programs; management of direct reports to support G&R sourcing and procurement activities while ensuring the resource requirements are appropriately budgeted
  • Ensuring Supplier Management activities are completed across G&R, including resolving disputes when escalated in order to maintain strong relationships and successful commercial outcomes

About You

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications associated with Engineering, Commerce, Business or Law is preferred, with additional qualifications highly valued
  • Significant experience leading procurement teams within complex, large-scale matrix organisations - ideally operating within the energy sector, or a similar regulated environment
  • High level understanding of a mature procurement environment, including governance requirements, purchasing policies and processes
  • Proven success in development of strategies for category sourcing and vendor management, resulting in demonstrable (and quantifiable) expenditure savings
  • Effective negotiating and influencing skills in a consultative and constructive manner
