Category Manager – Procurement

The Category Manager, Group Operations will sit within the Group Operations team and have primary responsibility of managing a key Category supporting the Group Operations function.

A member of the Group Operations Procurement team, this role includes establishing the strategy, sourcing and development of commercial agreements, tendering, negotiation and ongoing category management. The Group Operations portfolio includes multiple complex agreements valued in total at more than $650m p.a.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Development of category plans and sourcing strategy within the Group Operations categories across multiple industry leading international vendors
  • Drive the strategic sourcing activities (including negotiation and contracting) within the Group Operations categories
  • Contract governance and management including development and achievement of commercial outcomes with our Group Operations and Transformation colleagues
  • Providing procurement and category management leadership to Group Operations stakeholders and projects including the development of key relationships
  • Ensuring Health, Safety and Environment policies are adhered to across AGL as well as demonstrating AGL Values

As a category professional you will hold a solid grounding in category management and be eager to take the next step in a fast-paced dynamic environment. More importantly, you will have strong people skills, enabling you to work with a diverse team that gets the best out of each other.

Key Skills:

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including highly developed written and presentation skills and a demonstrated capacity to develop viable business cases
  • Knowledge of the business drivers and issues facing a large-scale energy company, and the ability to assist in translating these into requirements for inclusion in tender documents
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a complex, political matrix management environment
  • Must display and demonstrate an inherent ability to use effective negotiating and influencing skills in a consultative and constructive manner
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other departments and external agencies as related to job role

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications associated with Procurement; Business, Commerce or Law is preferred, and/or extensive experience in developing and managing medium to large scale sourcing functions and contract negotiations
  • MCIPS Procurement qualification, or Postgraduate qualifications an advantage
