Principal/Senior Engineer - Substation Primary Design

Job Summary

Working with the Perth and ANZ Design Teams, to deliver on complex design projects, mainly in the area of HV Substations for Power Utility, Generation and Mining Clients. The focus will be to service existing Power Utility clients that we have Panel agreements with.

As a result we are seeking the experience of a Design Engineer to lead and undertake substation engineering and design under the Engineering and Design Panel with Western Power.

Your day to day role will include:

  • Provide design leadership and influence to generate innovative and high quality design outcomes
  • Ensure that key design decisions and priorities are effectively set, ensure project scope is fit-for-purpose, set and monitor design timelines and negotiate agreement on performance indicators (cost, quality, time, risk, resources)
  • Work with the AECOM Project Manager/Design Manager, Client Design Manager and Client Engineers.
  • Determine technical risks on the projects.
  • Design Manage the Substation Primary Design packages/work when and where necessary.
  • Review and sign off on design calculations, reports and drawings
  • Carry out design where necessary according to skill and experience.
  • Liaise with stakeholder groups during the development of the Designs.
  • Generate fee and programme estimates..
  • effectively manage safety-in-design risks in line with the processes
  • Undertake substation design without compromising on quality
  • Participate as required in scoping and preparation of proposals
  • Preparation of specifications and reports
  • Undertake site visits during the project lifecycle
  • Interface and develop a healthy working relationship with Western Power Primary Plant design engineers
  • Work with extended team of discipline engineers, designers and CAD technicians.

Minimum Requirements

A minimum of 5 – 12 years related experience

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the necessary Australian Standards relating to HV substation design
  • Experience in working with Power Utilities
  • Demonstrated experience working for Western Power or on Western Power projects would be advantageous
  • Experience in AIS design – 11kV to 132kV or higher(e.g. 330kV) . Design Management experience of substation Engineering disciplines would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of Primary plant technologies and equipment
  • Experience in substation earthing systems design,lightning protection, HV cabling, transformer selection, busbar design, switchgear selection, etc
  • Experience in the use of earthing modelling tools (CDEGS, CYMCAP, etc) will be an advantage
  • Must be able to work in a high performance team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (High Voltage)
  • CPEng registered or eligible
