Our Civil Infrastructure team is involved in delivering the exciting city shaping projects; for road, rail, ports, airports, defence, urban development and water. Our teams often lead large, complex multi-discipline projects requiring collaboration across AECOM teams in Environment, Buildings & Places, Resources, Power & Industry and Construction Services sectors as well as with specialist teams in civil & structures, planning & advisory, water, ground engineering, asset management, digital engineering, sustainability, and renewable energy.

Job Summary

Due to recent project wins, we are excited to be growing our Water team. We are seeking to make a senior level appointment in Brisbane to support our water/waste water process engineering capabilities for a growing client base (water, waste water and recycled water treatment assets). Our team currently supports our national business and you will provide thought-leadership in your area of expertise and related areas.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical excellence in your field. You will support the development and achievement of a sustainable water and wastewater treatment business through engaging and supporting our team members, establishing new and achieving repeat business with existing clients. You will be a key member of multi-disciplined engineering, construction and operation teams, collaborating regularly with our national business to support strategies, project pursuit efforts and to help harness the full value of our global expertise to create valued water solutions.

Expectations will be to focus on growing and developing capability to deliver a range of projects covering the end-to-end project lifecycle including planning and investigations, concept design, detailed design and post-project completion support based on market conditions and project pipeline.

Responsibilities:

  • Process planning, capacity assessment, strategic analysis, characterisation analysis, concept and detailed design with post-project support – operational support.
  • Preparation and verification of technical memoranda, planning studies, design reports, technical specifications, functional specifications, commissioning plans and O&M plans.
  • Determining technical objectives and requirements and developing solutions along with standards and guidelines and providing technical risk advice and appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Promotion of AECOM as a provider of quality technical services.
  • Engaging, and being hands-on, in the technical execution of client assignments through to successful project completion.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and ensuring AECOM remains as a leading-edge service provider.
  • Maintain technical standards and approaches and implement best practices across the team – supporting nationally as necessary.
  • Coordinate and lead the capturing and provision of global expertise from AECOM’s international water technical group.
  • Managing client relationships and maintaining regular client contact to solicit feedback on project delivery performance and taking appropriate actions to remedy issues should they arise.
  • Recruiting and mentoring junior and mid-level staff.

Minimum Requirements

At least 15 years post-graduate treatment industry experience, most likely in consulting engineering, with exposure to medium-large and multi-disciplinary water or wastewater infrastructure projects.

  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Strong client focus, high level of self-motivation and dedication and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to contribute to municipal and industrial water and wastewater process engineering solutions for both liquid and solid streams. Additional experience in desalination, brine management, odour and septicity, resource recovery, cogeneration and energy efficiency solutions will be highly regarded.
  • High level of proficiency using water/water process modelling software e.g. Biowin or equivalent.
  • Experience as commissioning lead and having provided operation optimisation, troubleshooting and maintenance advice for treatment facilities.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in project management, design management and technical leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • While not essential, a Masters degree or PhD in chemical process engineering, or demonstrated equivalent will be highly regarded.
