Are you a parent hoping to return to the workforce?

WorkFocus Australia

Are you a parent hoping to return to the workforce?

Is your current employer or the nature of your job making it tough for you to be a parent and maintain paid employment?

We know our employees who are also parents are happier and more effective when they feel they can balance all the things they need to fit into their lives. By helping them to keep the 'balls in the air' we get happier and more productive staff. These are some of the issues working parent's in the WFA team have encountered and how we address them:

  • Helping out at school (be it tuck-shop duty, reading groups or sporting carnivals) or simply needing to fit in a trip to the hairdresser whilst the children are in care or at school:

Our solution = flexing your work hours to fit these priorities into your work day - we can flex hours up or down based on your family commitments and demands.

  • Needing to be able to work out of the office

Our solution = providing the IT tools and technology to enable mobility

Here are some other things that show that we "walk the talk" when it comes to family-friendly work policies:

  • Our Directors are all working parents
  • Our board consists of three women and two men who are all part time working parents.
  • We include a "Refresh Day" over and above your leave entitlement one day per year. Just think, a day, paid JUST FOR YOU – Manicure? Perhaps one day of uninterrupted DVD's/the movies?
  • Coffee machines in every office (yep, with proper coffee)
  • We provide valuable reading to parents about to take parental leave, including: Careers and Motherhood, Choices and Challenges
  • We make sure that social events cater for parents and dads that find it difficult to attend 'after hours' events
  • We can provide advice that can assist you juggling the demands of parenthood with work, including valuable links to networks that can assist you balance work with home requirements as well as links to valuable community supports

Returning to the paid workforce can be daunting. Here are some links that might help you in preparing to return to work:
