Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship - Electrotechnology

Description:

Electrical apprentices will learn to install and maintain electrical components, wiring, equipment and systems and may work in specialised areas of the rail industry.

Specific areas of our business where Electrotechnology skills are developed include Telecommunications, Rail Traction, Rollingstock Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance, Signalling Systems, Cabling Systems and Plant Servicing.

Apprenticeship - Mechanical

Description:

Mechanical Apprenticeships include Mechanical Fitters and / or Turners and also Diesel Fitters.

Apprentices would generally be involved in repair, servicing and maintenance duties while working with one or more of the following types of Queensland Rail assets: rollingstock, heavy earthmoving and/or rail track maintenance machinery, small to medium diesel engines, heavy lift vehicles and stationary plant equipment.

Apprenticeship - Heavy or Light Fabrication

Description:

Apprenticeships include Boilermaker, Sheet Metal and Blacksmith.

Working with heavy gauge steel - cutting, shaping, assembling, and welding - our heavy fabrication apprentices will be involved in the repair of rail rollingstock and the fabrication of company specific equipment.

Queensland Rail's sheet metal workers produce, manufacture and repair a wide range of light metal products, such as ducts, linings and doors for rollingstock

Apprenticeship - Construction and Allied Trades

Description:

Apprenticeships include Carpenter, Plumber and Painter.

Apprentices will carry out duties associated with the maintenance, upgrade and construction of station facilities, office accommodation and infrastructure projects and may also gain exposure to rollingstock maintenance requirements.

Apprenticeship - Vehicle Building

Description:

Apprenticeships include Vehicle Body Builders, Vehicle Trimming and Vehicle Painting.
Apprentices will be involved in the repair, manufacture and modification of passenger vehicle bodies and purpose-built body parts and panels for Queensland Rail Travel's long distance, suburban, and Tilt Trains.

Traineeship - Transport & Logistics

Description:

Queensland Rail offers a range of Traineeships within Transport & Logistics, some of which are tailored specifically to the needs of operating a railway.

Specific job roles may include Materials Officer, Network Maintainer, Network Controller, Network Planner, Train Driver and Train Guard.

Traineeship - Business

Description:Traineeships may be offered within the following business streams:

Administration, Finance / Accounts, Human Resources, Record Keeping, Legal, Project Management.

Job roles relevant to this qualification include but are not limited to:

  • Administration
  • Reception
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable

Traineeship - Asset Maintenance

Description:

Trainees will gain skills in an industrial and/or commercial environment and may work within our stations and facilities or be involved in the presentation of our suburban and long distance travel trains.
