Flexibility at NAB

NAB

A flexible workplace

Flexibility is not a 'nice to have' – it's a fundamental part of the way we do business. There's enough research out there to show it is critical to workplace productivity and satisfaction. Everyone has a part to play in making flexible working a reality – individuals managing their own work/life wellbeing, people leaders recognising the benefits of flexible working and colleagues being supportive of their workmates’ arrangements.

Flexible working arrangements

Flexible working may be one or a combination of:

  • working your normal hours at a location other than your primary workplace
  • flexibility to your roster, supporting flexible start and finishing times
  • moving from full to part time through a job share or job split arrangement
  • compressing your working week to work the same number of hours over fewer days
  • purchasing additional time away from work through lifestyle leave.

Workspace@NAB and flexi desking

We challenge traditional workplace design, management styles and rigid work routines. Our Workspace@NAB (flexible working) program guides and supports employees in a flexible working environment.

This approach minimises waste and reduces our environmental footprint. Combine sustainable thinking, workplace design and mobile technology and you get a workplace that is not only great to work in, but inspiring to be in.

There are many benefits to a flexible working environment. By opening up and sharing desks, we create an even more supportive, speedy and sustainable work experience as well as maximising space.

Culturally these environments support a balance of work and personal commitments while encouraging greater collaboration. This free flowing connection speeds up decision making because when you've the right people, in the right space, at the right time, decisions happen spontaneously.

So when you walk into our major facilities, you’ll see workstations modified to suit flexible, shared use and a clean desk standard in operation. At the end of each day you’ll pack up your desk ready for the next person to use the next day. Desk drawers and shelves are replaced by lockers to store laptops and personal items.

Shared workplace settings and options

Changes to workplace settings and furniture are designed to enable greater mobility for maximum team flexibility. A combination of work settings are installed in our major facilities to:

  • provide a choice of work surfaces for different activities
  • support different work styles
  • encourage greater communication and collaboration
  • increase informal face to face connections
  • use and share space effectively.

Technology supporting flexibility

For those employees needing to work remotely, we provide the technology to support that working arrangement. The ability to work from virtually anywhere anytime and connect from any PC enables a smart working environment.

Employees at our major facilities are able to work wirelessly to give them the freedom to utilise the work setting that is most efficient for their work day. This new way of working allows you to move around and still be online. You've the autonomy to create your own effective working environment.

Leave options and flexibility

There are many types of leave available to help you maintain a healthy work/life balance and support you through various life events.

Leave options may include defence leave, lifestyle leave, leave of absence, parental leave, pre-natal leave, religious leave, special leave, sporting activities leave and volunteer leave.

Family care and flexibility

We're committed to promoting a culture which supports the needs and career aspirations of employees with families. We recognise that family and carer responsibilities are not confined to your personal time but are interwoven into all aspects of your life, including employment. You and your family can benefit from our flexible working options.
