Communities

John Holland

For us, community engagement is the process by which the aspirations, concerns, needs and values of individuals and communities are incorporated into the decision making, planning, and delivery of our projects. In this way, we regard community engagement as a partnership. It is through the partnering process that we aim to make informed decisions that result in better outcomes for both the customer and the community.

Our partnering approach is has two facets:

  • Managing community impacts – project and operation-based efforts to mitigate and reduce the impact of our work on local communities.
  • Providing community benefits – project, workplace and operation-based activities that support local communities and deliver lasting benefits.

The community benefits we create are in the form of a contribution of funding, labour, skills or knowledge to implement initiatives that create positive legacies. Often, these initiatives are beyond the principal’s scope of works and is offered by John Holland in a spirit of community development. This is a source of great pride for the organisation and is an example of living our values of collaboration and care.
