Some of Ixom’s current involvements include:

Australia

Water Taste Competition

Ixom is the proud sponsor of the WIOA Water Taste Competition, which takes place in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria (Australia), with a national competition held at annually.

The competitions showcases our world renowned fresh and clean drinking water, which is supplied by water boards and authorities across the country.

Water samples are collected and tested from respective water boards and authorities with an overall winner for the best tasting water.

While the taste testing competitions is light-hearted and fun, there is a serious side to it.

This is a prestigious award, which is taken seriously by water boards and authorities who are taking part in the competitions.

Being able to open your tap and use water of high quality is something that is often taken for granted, especially in Australia.

The quality of water comes down to the experience and technology used by our water boards and authorities at water treatment plants all over Australia.

Ixom is proud to supply Australia’s network of water boards and authorities a full range of water treatment chemicals to ensure we continue to have world renowned, high quality water.

The Ixom International Science Olympiad Scholarship

The International Science Olympiad Competition is a global program for top performing secondary students in various science fields.

The competition is a rewarding opportunity for high achieving year 10 and 11 students to extend themselves through an international competition.

As part of our support, Ixom has announced the International Science Olympiad Scholarship, which will be provided to a selected Australian student through Australian Science Innovations (ASI).

This Scholarship will remove financial barriers by supporting a student to attend the International Science Olympiads, the Olympic Games for science students.

The scholarship demonstrates Ixom’s commitment to science education and the critical role it plays in driving innovation and creating future prosperity.

ASI is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to inspire, challenge and raise the aspirations of students in science.

Life Saving Victoria (Australia) - Watch Around Water program

Ixom is the principle sponsor of Life Saving Victoria's Watch Around Water program.

Watch Around Water is an education and public awareness program to address the challenge regarding supervision of young children at public swimming pools.

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children under five years of age and almost half of all injuries recorded at public swimming pools involve children. Watch Around Water assists aquatic staff to promote safe supervision practices and provide a safe venue for the community to participate in sport and recreation.

Ixom supports this important program which focuses on pool safety and drowning prevention as we are one the main suppliers of chlorine to public swimming pools across Victoria.

Our products keep the water safe for swimmers, and we are thrilled to support the Watch Around Water program which will keep them safe while they swim.

Life Saving Victoria do a fantastic job, every day, keeping our pools safe and we are pleased to partner with them on this important program.

The program promotes consistent supervision policies:

  • Children under five years age must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult and supervised within arms reach at all times while in the water
  • Children under 10 years must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult and supervised within line of sight at all times while in the water
  • Unsupervised children will be removed from the water by the facility staff

The Watch Around Water program has contributed in significantly reducing the number of drowning deaths, near-drowning incidents and injuries at public swimming pools.

The Remote Aboriginal Swimming Pools Project (RASPP)

Ixom is proud supporter of the The Remote Aboriginal Swimming Pools Project which is run by the Western Australia Royal Surf Life Saving Association. Ixom provides chlorine for the various pools used across Western Australia (Australia) to run this important project. Indigenous groups have been identified as a demographic at a high-risk of drowning and near-drowning in Australia.

Aboriginal children drown at a rate two and a half times that of non-Aboriginal children.

The Remote Aboriginal Swimming Pools Project aims to work in consultation with communities to run safe, efficient and effective aquatic facilities and to meet the needs and expectations of the communities.

Through the project, Royal Life Saving pool managers live in each community for nine months of the year, maintaining the pools and delivering community programs which include swimming lessons, swimming and lifesaving carnivals, birthday parties, after-school and holiday swimming, lap swimming, lifesaving training and other activities at the request of the community.

Big Freeze 3 - Fight MND

Ixom was delighted to support the Big Freeze 3 Australian Football League (AFL) match this year.

This match provides funds for valuable research into a potential treatment and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.

Supporting Fight MND and Neale Daniher in the fight to prevent the suffering of Australians diagnosed with this disease and to ultimately find a cure is something all Ixom employees wholeheartedly support.

New Zealand

National Science Roadshow

For the second year running, Ixom is a proud sponsor of the National Science Roadshow’s Bay of Plenty leg.

The Roadshow is a mobile science discovery centre. Each year it travels the length of New Zealand in a 15m truck and trailer, bringing a range of cool interactive science and technology exhibits to communities. It encourages students to connect, and remain connected, with science and technology throughout their lives. It broadens students’ knowledge and experience by linking science and technology with the world around them.

The Science Roadshow fits seamlessly with Ixom’s own aim to encourage science education in schools.

Last year was a tremendous success with the event hosting 2,620 students from 41 schools over seven days. Ixom expect this year’s event will generate just as much interest and enthusiasm for science.
