Our culture

Gilbert + Tobin

At Gilbert + Tobin, we pride ourselves on remaining a first-tier corporate law firm while maintaining the values and ideals that we hold true.

Gilbert + Tobin is a work in progress – we’re always improving and evolving. As Managing Partner Danny Gilbert says, “The house is never built”. In our dealings with clients and each other we aspire to treat everyone with generosity and respect, and to bring out the best in each other – to be fully human.

Gilbert + Tobin is an egalitarian, open-minded meritocracy committed to the growth and development of our people. We embrace change with enthusiasm and we are committed to absolute excellence in everything we do.

We are as restlessly ambitious and innovative as we were when we started this firm in 1988. Gilbert + Tobin has deliberately chosen to remain independent and in charge of its own future. We are a part of a global community of leading independent firms, which provides us with wonderful opportunities for collaboration, client referral and international experience for our people. We believe this is the best model for the firm’s future success, and yours.

Outstanding pro bono work

Pro bono is at the cultural heart of Gilbert + Tobin and is a dedicated practice group led by a Partner. As pro bono pioneers (we were the first law firm to employ a full-time pro bono lawyer) we are committed to helping disadvantaged clients who don’t have access to the justice system or don’t qualify for legal aid. All lawyers have the opportunity to work alongside our now three full-time pro bono lawyers and assist our clients who are most in need. We encourage all staff to get involved in one of our pro bono or CSR activities.

Corporate social responsibility

As part of our corporate social responsibility agenda, we are committed to a number of activities to make a difference within our firm and to the wider community. Our CSR programs focus on three streams – reconciliation, community programs and the environment.
