Psychologists in Corrective Services

Corrective Services NSW

Psychologists employed with Corrective Services work with offenders in custody and in the community.

The work of psychologists plays an important part in the assessment, programs and services provision to offenders, which is geared towards reducing their risk of re-offending. In correctional centres, psychologists work as part of interdisciplinary teams to manage offenders with self-harm and suicide risks, offenders with mental health and cognitive impairments, and / or offenders who present with institutionally disruptive or violent behaviours.

In Community Corrections, psychologists work with Community Corrections Officers to manage reintegration from custody to community, and to assist offenders to comply with the conditions of their community-based supervision orders. All psychologists in both custody and community provide assessments, risk management advice and some direct interventions for sex and violent offenders.

Corrective Services also employs staff psychologists who provide support services to staff.

All Psychology positions are advertised on jobsnsw.
