Our culture

Bupa

Recognising success through honesty and integrity

When we talk about our culture at Bupa, four key qualities are central to the way we communicate with each other and our members - respect, empathy, honesty and integrity. And when things go well, we put a real emphasis on recognising and celebrating our achievements.

Work-life balance is high on our agenda, and we encourage our people with the opportunity of flexible working conditions. Caring for and inspiring our people doesn’t stop at the office door either. We encourage people to pursue their careers across Bupa’s worldwide network, and have in place an International Secondment Program to help nourish high performers.

We invest in the growth of our people to ensure that their experience here is a truly great one. An example of this is our Leading One Life Program, which was introduced in 2009 to enhance our people’s leadership capabilities.

Our culture, our people and our values have led us to win several independent industry awards, including the 2009 Australian Human Resources Institute Award for Responsible Restructuring, the 2009 HR Leadership Award for Best HR Strategic Plan, and the 2010 Rob Goffee Award for Talent Management.

At work and away

We don’t just talk about helping people lead longer, healthier, happier lives – we’re out there doing something about it. We take our responsibility as a major healthcare company seriously and are deeply involved in giving back to the communities in which we operate.

Our national corporate responsibility program includes two days additional leave each year for each employee to do voluntary work in the community, as well as providing the opportunity to participate in our workplace giving and environmental programs; employee fund-matching (where Bupa will match up to $4,000 per year of funds raised by each employee for their charity of choice); International Community Challenge, local community sponsorships; and local and national fundraising opportunities.
