Getting to know FlexCoach Vanessa Vanderhoek

Getting to know FlexCoach Vanessa Vanderhoek

1.What is your career history?

Over the last 15 years I have heldĀ senior executive roles, including 10 years as a management consultant at Ernst & Young (Director), the head of policy for a Commonwealth government agency (SES Band 1) and the head of operations for a peak organisation (General Manager Operations).

2.What was your motivation to become a coach?

A few years ago I was made redundant from a not-for-profit organisation due to a shift in government policy. It was through this adversity that I truly realised my gift at helping people through professional coaching to put their best foot forward - despite the very difficult circumstances! I took a big risk, established my own business and here I am.

3.Do you have any particular areas of coaching expertise?

The key defining edge that sets me apart from most other career coaches is the knowledge and skills that real-world industry experience has afforded me. Whether you are seeking a career change, wanting to prepare for job application and interview, or planning your returning to work, I can help you maximise the potential of your competitive edge and be the boss of your career.

4.What do you love most about coaching?

Hands down, I absolutely LOVE watching the transformation of clients right in front of my eyes - whether it be landing their dream job, accomplishing amazing career changes and most of all, truly believing in their potential. It is such a wonderful experience and I feel blessed to be able to do this as my job.

5.How do you define success?

Success is doing what you love, doing it best and forgetting the rest. [This is adapted from a mantra my sister, Maree Gill, always says]

6.What is your vision for women in the workplace?

My vision is for people who work flexibly (both women and men) to be valued in the workplace, have fulfilling careers, and not be judged by others.
