General Manager SHEQ


The role

With a dual focus across two iconic Ferries businesses in Sydney and Brisbane, you will lead the SHEQ function and hold accountability for all passengers and a large, operational maritime workforce, and maintenance and corporate team members.

Leading a small team of direct reports, your key responsibilities include:

  • Role model appropriate leadership behaviours and promote a safety culture across the organisation.
  • Lead the business in setting safety objectives, and engage all leaders and employees in relation to SHEQ strategy, compliance, legislation, regulation and standards.
  • Implement and maintain (including accreditation of) robust corporate Safety Management Systems and policies to drive and enhance the safety culture and performance.
  • Liaise with Government agencies and Local councils on safety, risk, compliance and environmental matters as required.
  • Guide and advise senior leadership on all safety and risk related matters.
  • Support and develop your team to promote the SHEQ culture and performance.

What you bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in SHEQ or an equivalent discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in practical SHEQ leadership in large, complex, and regulated operational organisations.
  • Experience in heavily unionised and high-profile environments.
  • Contemporary understanding of HSEQ systems and risk frameworks, with the ability to develop, implement and maintain.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in advising senior leaders.
