We’re looking for a Transport Technology Team Manager to join our Networks team, within our Telstra Operations business. Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll be part of our Transport Engineering organisation focussed on Telstra’s existing and next generation transmission networks.
About our team
Our Transport Engineering team are accountable for full national connectivity, achieved through a combination of extensive terrestrial fibre links, Optical and Packet transport technologies and Radio and Satellite coverage. Transport Engineering leads the Planning, Development, Testing and Integration of Transport Infrastructure to achieve a highly reliable and scalable Transport Network to deliver Telstra’s customer services, for existing and future products.
You will lead a Transport technology team that has ownership of the deployed Transport network including Fibre, ancillary networks such as Common Synchronisation Network and Transport Communication networks, development of practices and superstructure solutions, management of the lifecycle aspects, and interworking of transport solutions that support Telstra’s current and future technology and service backhaul requirements.

The role with us
You’ll build, sustain, and lead a team of eight direct reports that are predominantly based in Melbourne. A high performing team that delivers competitive advantages, enabling profitable growth, whilst managing end-to-end development, delivery, technical design authority, integration requirements, and lifecycle management for the transmission domain.
Providing reliable transport and practice solutions to support business initiatives, with a constant drive and passion to deliver delightful, positive customer experiences.
You’ll be challenged to manage the effective integration of new transmission solutions into the wider product and transport backhaul suite. Additionally ensuring that lifecycle management of deployed infrastructure for ongoing assurance capabilities is maintained.
This leadership position provides the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the team and projects, mentor, coach, and train staff, influence senior stakeholders within the organisation, as well as manage strategic commercial relationships with external with third party providers and vendors.
What you’ll bring
You’ll ideally have an appropriate tertiary, vendor, or industry certified qualification in Telecommunications or Engineering; coupled with deep technical knowledge in the Transmission domain.
As an industry leader you’ll have a strong grasp of analysis, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of complex network solutions in the Transport Engineering arena.
Your career journey so far will have seen you develop expert knowledge of engineering best methods and practices; being able to solve complex problems and develop high level strategy.
Crucial for this role will be your ability to assess and select new emerging technologies, including building strategic partnerships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate beneficial arrangements.
Experience preparing compelling business cases is a must; being able to determine the most economically viable solutions and present these at a high level to senior internal stakeholders.
