Senior Data Centre Administrator - Defence Data Operations


We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Centre Administrator to join the Defence Data Operations team in Canberra. The purpose of this role is to provide technical management of the data centre platform enabling Telstra to deliver secure network and end user services to the Department of Defence. The successful applicant will need Service Operations experience and the ability to prioritise work, coordinate and assign resources for managing incidents and changes, and who has an enthusiasm for solving technical problems that lead to improved system and technical team performance.

Essential skills and experiences:

  • Qualification and experience managing and administering at least one, preferably two, of the following technologies in a data centre environment:
    • Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SCCM, AD, DNS & DHCP
    • Redhat Linux
    • NetApp Storage and Commvault Backup and Recovery technologies
  • Experience and competence with ITSM practices and processes (ITILv3 training)
  • Experience and competence managing, communicating, collaborating and coordinating with technical staff responsible for Data Centre system administration

Highly desirable skills and experiences:

  • Experience and expertise in managing and administering several of the following technologies:
    • VMWare virtualisation and Software Defined Networking
    • F5 Load balancer networking
    • Lenovo XClarity administrator
  • Current Negative Vetting 2 (NV2 – Top Secret) security clearance would be advantageous
  • IT or Engineering based degree or equivalent would be advantageous

Please note: Candidates must be Australian Citizens and have a current Australian Government NV1 security clearance to be considered, and be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
