Senior Cyber Security Technologist

Managed Security Services at Telstra are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Technologist to join their dynamic team responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing support of the Managed Security Services network & platform.

This role will be the focal point for technology incidents, changes and problem management functions, aligning to the core ITIL principles ensuring the confidentiality, availability and integrity of Telstra Managed Security Services.

Your Key responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Managed Security Services SOC network incidents, changes and problem management functions aligning to the core ITIL principles.  Conduct investigative analysis on systems, root cause analysis, and resolution for metrics, tracking lessons learned, relevant data is compiled, documented and disseminated.
  • Work closely with the product development team to influence the product roadmap
  • Refining capabilities used to monitor, analyse, mitigate and triage platform and security events.
  • Create and update documented procedures for recording, assessing, analysing, communicating, rectifying, escalating and reporting platform and security incidents.
  • Effectively respond to all escalated network, security and platform incidents.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of documentation that supports the business unit.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching for colleagues.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by management from time to time.
  • Ability to work reliably, efficiently and effectively while unsupervised.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports on platform metrics.

    • Document and maintain a knowledge base of work instructions.

    • Serve as a network expert.

    • Resolve and escalate platform issues to appropriate entities for investigation and/or remediation.

What you’ll bring 

  • Ideally you will have Bachelor’s degree/ Diploma in Information Technology or similar and advanced experience in managed security services. 
  • The ability to act as a subject matter expert, the ability to communicate effectively, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders will play an instrumental role in maintaining the security of the largest network in Australia.  
  • Security clearance eligibility is a requirement – Must be an Australian citizen. 

Highly Desirable 

  • Linux experience, preferably Red Hat / CentOS based.
  • Network Computing experience, to a detailed level.
  • Cloud Virtualization experience – Azure preferred.
  • Experience with Big Data platforms, especially Hadoop, HCP, HDFS etc.
  • Security clearance eligibility is a requirement – Australian citizenship required.
