Our Cyber Security division within Telstra Operations’ purpose is to protect the privacy & security of our customers, Telstra and the services we provide, and play a leading role in shaping the cyber security landscape. We're working hard to become a world-class Cyber Security practise and are looking for a driven Senior Cyber Security Technologist to join our Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Team.

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Team under Telstra’s Threat Research and Intelligence (TRI) group is tasked with delivering actionable, relevant and timely analysis of any security incidents impacting Telstra. The Senior Cyber Security Technologist role is designed to ensure that threats to Telstra, which could lead to Information and Network Security incidents, are handled with urgency and attention to detail. In this role you will perform Open source investigations, passive reconnaissance activities, maintain a range of services, stay current on emerging trends in Cyber security and have an inquisitive nature and ability to use Open Source Intelligence skills to locate and report on threats to the security of Telstra’s data and networks.

Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Analyse and Gather OSINT/TRI data sources and collections for potential threats, escalate security incidents and create actionable reports for stakeholders. 
  • Discovery of Web based information that is capable of providing intelligence to Telstra’s Cyber security Operations Teams relating to the security of Telstra data and systems.
  • Discovery of data or information that may affect the security of Telstra customer accounts or devices.
  • Analysing and processing of data gathered to gain intelligence.
  • Developing and automating processes required for information and intelligence gathering.
  • Assist with Threat Intelligence reporting methods that communicate effectively to every level of the organization.
  • Ensure that documentation required to maintain a repeatable approach to OSINT activities is consistently added to and maintained.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision as well as be able to delegate tasks to the team during manager’s absence.
  • Develop, contribute and maintain an array of Open source security tools including and not restricted to ELK stack, GitHub, etc. based on Open Source investigative findings.
  • Use knowledge of requirements to analyse and process intelligence information.
  • Develop, create and improve OSINT research practices and assist in knowledge transfer, mentoring and training of new analysts in these techniques.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience/qualifications/attributes:

  • Strong experience in Open Source Intelligence gathering
  • Proven Management/ Leadership skills to vital to the success of this role
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills that can aid in reporting and writing documentation
  • Strong Scripting / Programming / ELK stack skills
  • Demonstrate ability to research, analyse, interpret, evaluate and integrate complex data from multiple intelligence sources discovered online to obtain information of value to Telstra’s Security Teams.
  • Proficiency in online research and analysis of resultant data is essential.
  • Knowledge of Web application security practices
  • Knowledge of current hacker tools, tactics and procedures
  • Industry certification such as Network+, Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CISSP, GIAC Certified courses or other related courses would be advantageous
