Network Engineer Specialist


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, deploying, and improve specific network element technologies and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems to deliver products and services to customer business units
  • Assist in the translation of business requirements to deliver network elements into realisable products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure in a timely, high quality and cost effective way to ensure the operational capability to deliver r
  • Assess capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements and manage vendor technology delivery.
  • Ensure technology solutions are integrated with Telstras activation, assurance and billing processes and systems, and meet operational requirements.
  • Assist with the development of technology guidelines and standards in the design and deployment of technology.
  • Assist with peering vs sales opportunity assessment
  • Financial assessment for new initiatives and gravity improvement
  • Coordinate network routing optimizations with different Telstra network stakeholders in engineering and operations to implement new initiatives - ie route leaking, primarily geared towards improving network performance i.e. Gravity or further cost efficiency optimization
  • Detailed Technical Requirement Gathering and collation for the turn up of Peers via Customer Service Design
  • Network resource reservation and update
  • Manage portfolio of peering-partner’s contracts globally, including faults, new capacity orders, renewal and deactivations
  • Working closely with finance and AP teams to coordinate transit invoice cost discrepancies, payments, and assist with accurate processing of invoices; capacity mgmt
  • Assist the product manager  and account team to develop and maintain relationships with key major OTTs to foster the Telstra IP network as the de-facto choice for Asia eyeballs and OTTs alike – IP ranking and AS gravity improvement
  • Engaging new suppliers and peering partners to implement new capability to improve Telstra’s IP gravity
  • Actively monitor and analyse OTT/Key Carrier traffic to suggest improvements in both performance and Telstra’s cost space in customer’s traffic routing
  • Generate monthly reporting for sales community & products for network and gravity enhancements – eg. Peering Forum updates
  • Develop new products by incorporating peering plans into new IPT capabilities
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert/Escalation point to resolve network faults and remediating peering partner performance issues
  • Facilitate workshops and training to educate the engineering community for new technical implementations…new requirements, new ott customers/ suppliers
  • Develop network policies, procedures and records to ensure the respective network service operational documents stay relevant
  • Assess complex peer routing behaviour and coordinate with NSS, Network engineering and support to execute
  • Assist in Collaborate with engineering, product, pricing and sales for both domestics (1221) and international networks (4637) to improve Telstra’s position in the global peering & transit space
  • Updating and maintaining Telstra Internal IP Peer policy and ensure relevance for the respective operational documents
  • Support Telstra’s Network Leadership and enhance AS gravity attractiveness by drawing key eye-ball and OTT customers into Telstra’s IP Network
  • Develop, maintain and source new opportunities with major OTTs to reduce OPEX spending
  • Provide industry insight within the peering space to identify new opportunities and improve product offering
