Level 3 Network Engineer

Telstra’s Operations unit is responsible for all aspects of the design, engineering, architecture, construction, and operation of Telstra networks, technology and information technology, plus the delivery of customer services. We're working hard to become a world-class technology & service organisation and are looking for a driven Level 3 Network Engineer to join our Canberra based Defence Network Operations Team.

As the Technical Expert within the level 3 Network Operations team, your primary focus is to perform a variety of Level 3 Engineering activities and provide technical escalation to the Telstra Level 2 Engineers located within the DNOC. Daily activities include providing analytical, reasoning and specialised technical expertise to investigate, isolate and rectify network incidents and problems.

Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Perform Level 3 technical support services as part of incident and problem management
  • Conduct scheduled reviews of Defence assets and configuration systems to identify inaccuracies and provide feedback to Defence stakeholders and Telstra Sparing Analyst and other team members.
  • Support the Incident / Problem Manager (s) in the delivery of incident and problem management.
  • Accept, manage and update service requests to ensure contracted service levels are met.
  • Provide mentorship to the Level 2 Engineers.
  • Undertake the execution of remedial activities to resolve complex issues.
  • Identify known errors and document within Telstra and Defence known errors databases and knowledge management systems.
  • Utilise the accumulated data and experience to continually improve efficiencies in the service.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience/qualifications/attributes:

  • Proven experience in a technical support environment working in a multi-vendor environment with Cisco, Nortel, Avaya and /or Juniper products and routing protocols.
  • Level 3 triage and help desk experience with Nortel MSS Passport and enterprise equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex Network issues in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Due to the nature of the role, successful candidates must hold minimum NV1 Security Clearance, and eligible/capable of obtaining and maintaining a NV 2 Security Clearance
