Our health and safety team play an active role in creating a safe working environment and ensuring the wellbeing of our employees is at the heart of everything they do. There are a number of practices and frameworks set up to ensure this is made possible and through our governance structure they are consistently able to introduce new initiatives to improve and challenge the status- quo.

As a Senior HSE Specialist you will provide HSWE business partnering for the Telstra Operations Lines of Business, specifically Global Business Services Australia (GBS). The role requires a high level of stakeholder management, engagement, influencing and communications skills and experience coupled with a high level of energy to drive engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with aligned businesses to proactively review the business HSWE risk profile to assess its ongoing adequacy and respond to emerging HSWE risks
  • Benchmark, identify and introduce best practice HSWE risk management solutions to the business.
  • Ensure key risk steerco’s and line management remain informed of HSWE initiatives and programs of work through effective governance structures that promote consistent management of HSWE risk in the business
  • Provide advice and support to the business on the development, implementation and integration of the HSWE improvement plans
  • Work with the broader HSWE team to deliver specialist work into the business
  • Monitor and report progress against HSWE targets and performance indicators for the businesses
  • Provide consolidated reports for Group Executives and governance functions within the business
  • Assist the business in responding to HSWE audits and champion the resolution of audit findings
  • Work with the assurance teams within the lines of business to grow the maturity of HSWE audits and inspections
  • Support the implementation and ongoing adherence to the Telstra Global HSWE Management system
  • Develop business specific HSWE system documentation for parts of the business that require assistance to improve their systems
  • Facilitate risk assessments and the development of controls, including safe work method statements
  • Develop, implement and monitor HSWE strategy and programs which will improve and build on a positive HSWE culture

A bit about you

  • Extensive experience managing HSWE risks, preferably in high-risk industries.
  • Formal qualifications in HSWE highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of HSWE policies, programs, systems and certifications such as AS4801/ISO 14001/ Federal Safety Commission.
  • Extensive history in management of contractors and working with several contract managers in achieving alignment.
  • Senior management relationships / key stakeholder management.
  • Experience in dealing with complex HSWE issues.
  • Proven skills in innovation, creativity and marketing.
  • Other relevant business and industry experience.
  • Working in a large complex corporate organisation.
