The project

BxP is our Business Experience Platform. We’re building on our SAP systems to set ourselves up for the future. BxP is all about a single source of truth for our business data using SAP ERP. Over time, SAP will replace and streamline most of our business systems, so have one centralised data base, real-time information across departments and governance over data and processes.

About the role

In this role, you are the subject matter expert for the development of Sydney Water’s BxP project on management accounting, partnering with the business to provide financial insight and advice to drive commercial performance and inform decision making.

You will provide whole-of-organisation subject matter expertise for Sydney Water financial processes and functions which are implemented through BxP.

  • Provide input and create effective financial management, budgeting, forecasting and analysis processes in BxP for all Opex and Capex at Group and/or Business Unit management levels.
  • The annual budgeting process for group level budgets, including focus on the key costs and risks for long term performance, translating group target to operational targets, and contributing to the business planning process as an input to budgeting.
  • Assist in the organisation change management including raising the financial and commercial literacy in the business to understand and manage their budgets and use appropriate financial and commercial principles in decision making.
  • Build trust and maintain good relationships with stakeholders in operating Groups across the organisation to raise and work through difficult and challenging issues.
  • Analyse financial information, deviations from plan and trends to understand and advise on the overall financial performance and determine future goals and challenges.
  • Partnering with the business to implement improved cost and business driver analysis via BxP
  • Design and implementation of user test cases

About you

  • Relevant degree qualification (e.g. Economics, Business, Accounting) or experience deemed equivalent and/or a Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA)
  • 3+ years’ experience working with SAP ERP; primarily finance coupled with procurement and supply chain
  • 5-7+ years’ experience working in commercial analysis and accounting in a large complex organisation, preferably in a similar organisation or industry sector (i.e. asset intensive) Demonstrated experience providing financial and commercial advice and consulting expertise to senior managers.
  • Proven ability to use business and financial data to resolve business issues and questions and identify efficiencies and opportunities for the business.
