Legal Counsel-Corporate and Regulatory


Reporting to the Senior Manager Group Legal-Corporate & Regulatory, you will be managing a range of complex and interesting matters including negotiating technology and procurement transactions, corporate / commercial advice and contracts and regulatory matters. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and advise on legal and regulatory risks relating to technology, data privacy and protection, surveillance and general procurement matters across Stockland. This position will support investigations, breach notifications, incident management and adapt compliance practices proactively. 

The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, commercially focused and capable of handling a variety of complex work.

Key Responsibilities

•             Provide legal support to internal teams on contractual matters related to technology, privacy, data security and protection.

•             Draft, advise, negotiate, and execute on data protection agreements, terms of service, vendor agreements, and other contracts and communications.

•             Ensure and track contractual compliance with the Privacy Act, General Data Protection Regulation and other data privacy laws.

•             Draft, enhance, or implement policies and procedures to streamline operations relating to technology, privacy, data security and protection.

•             Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

•             Drive cultural change and proactively seek opportunities to drive change, innovation and regulatory and compliance frameworks.

•             Contribute to team success by working collaboratively with own team members; assisting team members when needed; sharing ideas, knowledge and experience; and seeking to learn from team members.

•             Deliver a community and environmental shared value proposition that enhances Stockland’s reputation. Enhance organisational effectiveness through continuous improvement and innovation.

•             Undertake or participate in ad hoc projects, for example the consideration and implementation of legislative reform that impacts the business.

 

About You    

•             Minimum 6 years’ legal experience in a top or mid-tier legal firm and/or as an in-house lawyer. A background working for a tech firm would be highly regarded

•             Experience with data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation.

•             Experience drafting, and managing external legal counsel in negotiating a variety of technology and data protection agreements, commercial procurement agreements, and privacy provisions in contracts.

•             Experience with privacy, data security and surveillance laws on a federal and state level, including experience with data privacy, incident response, forensic investigations, cyber preparedness, and privacy policy drafting would be highly beneficial

•             Legal qualifications and a current Australian practising certificate.

•             Must have strong communication skills, capacity to work collaboratively with different functions and a strong team player with a commercial approach.

•             An ability to influence stakeholders and instil contemporary legal and compliance culture.

•             Strong planning, organisation and management skills, anticipating potential problems and escalating issues when appropriate.
