Legal Counsel


You will be reporting to the co-Senior Managers of the Group Legal, Commercial Property team and will be tasked to manage and advise on a broad range of property matters relating to the national commercial property portfolio (retail, workplace & logistics) including leasing, acquisitions and disposals, development work, construction contracts, regulatory compliance and related matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

•             Responsible for providing specialist legal advice to a broad range of internal stakeholders; drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documentation; assisting with the negotiation of commercially important  outcomes; assisting with the management of disputes and contentious matters; providing support and assistance to the lease management team.

•             Assist in identifying and managing legal needs and priorities.

•             Ensure projects are delivered in a consultative and customer focussed manner.

•             Work as a part of a project group to identify legal issues and contribute to the decision making process to achieve the business objectives within accepted risk profiles.

•             Review opportunities for process improvements or cost savings.

•             Monitor legal costs and the effectiveness of the legal panel.

•             Report on legal expenditure at regular intervals.

•             Develop appropriate industry / professional network relationships.

About You

•             With 3 to 5 years PQE, you will have solid expertise in property transactions and property law, preferably within the retail, workplace and/or logistics sectors.

•             Commercially focused, you are proactive, have the ability to take instructions from internal clients, clarify legal needs and advise on the best course of action to take. 

•             With strong written and verbal communication skills, you will also be able to build rapport easily and establish trusted working partnerships with your peers and internal stakeholders.

•             Importantly, you possess a high level of integrity and are able to manage expectations well and pride yourself on delivering high-quality, timely outcomes.
