Solution Architect Lead - IoT and Mobility

We’re looking for a Solution Architecture Lead for IoT and Mobility to join our Networks team, within our Telstra Operations business. Reporting to the General Manager of Strategy and Architecture, you’ll be part of our Consumer Product Engineering organisation focussed on Telstra’s product and technology planning.

About our team

Our Strategy and Architecture team are responsible for setting and leading the direction and productisation for Consumer Product Engineering, with a centralised focus on architectural excellence. Key strategic directions include product and technology planning for IoT/M2M, LoT and Mobility.

The role with us

You will proactively set the direction of future products and technologies, answer questions before they’re asked, communicate ideas and concepts which are over the horizon, and facilitate cross company innovation.

You’ll set the strategic direction and have an overarching responsibility across product and technology planning for IoT/M2M, LoT and Mobility. Utilising a deep level of understanding of emerging products and technology in these domains, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the industry as a whole, you will guide Consumer Product Engineering teams to success via key strategic programs of work.

Utilising a mix of hands-on technical skills combined with commercial acumen, you’ll provide up-to-date industry knowledge via polished narratives, influencing senior level executives in their decision making processes. Championing initiatives throughout the Design Authority process, your ideas will be backed by architectural excellence, sound product technology roadmaps, and elegant business strategies.

This leadership position provides the opportunity to shape the technology direction of the teams and programs of work, mentor and coach staff, influence senior stakeholders within the organisation, as well as manage strategic commercial relationships with external with third party providers, standardisation bodies, and vendors.

 Key accountabilities:

  • Be a trusted advisor to the Director of Consumer Product Engineering in positioning them as the centre of excellence for strategy, innovation, and technology leadership
  • Explore new product and solution opportunities based on innovation and customer trends in the IoT/M2M, LoT & Mobility domains
  • Assess the maturity and feasibility for introduction of new capabilities to drive growth with consideration of the big picture and industry directions
  • Lead the migration away from legacy technologies to new alternatives with enhanced features and/or lower cost of operation
  • Actively contribute to the product development process considering industry trends, strategy, empirical data for end customer usage, and innovations in technology
  • Maintain knowledge of future technology evolutions and assist in Telstra representation at trade shows, industry forums, and standards bodies
  • Work with strategic partners to evaluate, demonstrate, and develop new product concepts
  • Develop and exploit ‘in-house’ intelligence and expertise regarding customer needs, to identify potential new differentiated customer and market opportunities
  • Manage vendor strategies to seek best alignment with Telstra’s roadmaps and operational strategies

  

What you’ll bring

You will ideally have an appropriate tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering, coupled with demonstrated experience in a technical environment.

As an industry professional you’ll have a strong grasp of the telecommunications vendor landscape, with strategic partnerships already in place.

Your career journey so far will have seen you develop a high level of pragmatism, together with the ability to operate at all levels of technical detail, to negotiate the best possible outcome in an expedient fashion.

Your superior strategic planning skills and commercial acumen allow you to demonstrate leadership in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team environment; being able to solve complex problems and drive consensus among stakeholders.

Crucial for this role will be your ability to assess and select new emerging technologies, including building strategic partnerships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate beneficial arrangements.

Lastly exceptional analytical and presentation skills for preparing compelling business cases is a must; being able to determine the most economically viable solutions and present these at a high level to senior executive stakeholders.
