We’re looking for a Senior Technology Specialist – Emerging Radio Technologies Lead to join our Networks team, within our Telstra Operations business. Reporting to the Manager of Radio Engineering, you’ll be part of our Transport Engineering organisation focussed on Telstra’s existing and next generation networks.
About our team
Our Transport Engineering team are accountable for full national connectivity, achieved through a combination of extensive terrestrial fibre links, and Radio and Satellite coverage. Transport Engineering leads the Planning, Development, Testing and Integration of Transport Infrastructure to achieve a highly reliable and scalable Transport Network to deliver Telstra’s customer services, for existing and future products.
Radio Transport Engineering manages the lifecycle process for Telstra's radio transmission platforms for the Core/IEN and Customer Access Network (CAN), comprising high capacity microwave, VHF, and UHF systems which deliver Telstra's suite of products to our customers.
Based in either Melbourne, Brisbane, or Adelaide you’ll be part of our journey to be at the heart of every customer service connection, providing network resilience, growth, and innovative products and services that our customers want and need, in Australia and across the global market.
The role with us
You’ll lead and drive the evolution and transition from existing radio transport networks to new emerging radio transport platforms (5G and beyond). Providing technology and industry expertise and direction, allowing Radio Transport Engineering to support the exponential growth of Telstra’s mobiles, voice, and data services.
Lead specialist analysis, design, development, and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations.
What you’ll bring
You’ll ideally have an appropriate tertiary level or technical qualification in Telecommunications or Engineering; coupled with deep technical domain knowledge in Radio Engineering.
As an industry leader you’ll have a strong grasp of multiple radio technologies for platforms contributing to 5G technologies and architectures (millimetre wave, multi-band links, mesh networks, non-line of sight, SDN/NFV, adaptive modulation systems, and free space optics transport solutions).
Your career journey so far will have seen you work extensively in designing radio technology architectures and solutions. With a working knowledge of deploying, migrating, and integrating these into existing networks, as well as developing advanced automation and configuration solutions.
Crucial for this role will be your ability to assess and select new emerging technologies, including developing strategic partnerships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate beneficial arrangements.
Experience in preparing compelling business cases is a must; being able to determine the most economically viable solutions and present these at a high level to senior internal stakeholders.
