Duties
The Position
Working closely with the founding Directors, we are seeking an experienced part-time Financial Controller or senior finance executive who would love a varied position mixing their hands on work ethic and solid business acumen to help the company grows into the next phase of its strategy. This valued role will require the successful candidate work approximately 20 - 25 hours a week, however flexible hours and days can be arranged to suit individual personal requirements.
This position's key responsibilities are:
- Providing accurate, timely, financial direction, guidance and support to the Directors on all matters to do with the business and investment financials.
- Plan and manage company cash flow including budgeting and 12 month forecasting.
- Preparation and management of all financial, management and tax accounting, and corporate compliance activities of the company, subsidiaries and funds under management (unit trusts) and working with external accountants from time to time.
- Producing and lodge accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial information, tax returns (working with tax advisors).
- Special reports for investors (e.g. investment banks and private equity funds) and government agencies drawing on financial information.
- Maintain best practices for processes, standards and documentation to ensure compliance with AFSL, legislation, company policies, applicable accounting rules (special purpose IFRS).
- Organise and manage the annual audit with the external auditors.
- Oversight of the Accounts/Payroll Officer, reviewing and authorising payments, reports, lodgements and returns.
- Monthly and annual investor report completion (including investor specific management reporting packs).
- Ad hoc projects in line with the business strategy.
The ideal candidate shall have:
- Minimum qualifications are a degree qualification in Business / Commerce from a reputable university plus be a qualified CA / CPA.
- Prior experience in a senior position in accounting, finance, management (preferably gained in funds management, real estate development, a buldge bracket environment or a public practice dealing with similar clients).
- Enjoys working autonomously, has a commercial mindset and is comfortable making daily business decisions, being responsible and responsive.
- Knowledge of business, accounting and basic IFRS and management principles.
- Experience with forecasting, budgeting and reporting.
- An understanding or experience in tax returns, tax reconciliations (versus accounting) for various entity types.
- Knowledge of Accounts and Payroll processes and has high level MYOB skills.
- Strong Excel skills for cashflow forecasts, budgeting, reports.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Attention to detail, strong communications skills, personable and comfortable dealing with external stakeholders.
