NSW Telco Authority is working with government agencies, and other partners to design and build the next generation of critical and non-critical operational communications services for NSW Government agencies, to better enable them to service and protect NSW communities.

This includes the Critical Communications Enhancement Program (CCEP), with an investment of $320 million by NSW Government, across four years to build an enhanced government radio network, a key role in the development of a national Public Safety Mobile Broadband (PSMB) capability, and the Regional Digital Connectivity and NSW Mobile Black Spot program among
others.

About the Role
We are currently looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our team. In this role you will lead, plan and manage the structural design and maintenance of structural services across our network. This role is key to helping The Authority overcome complex design issues in order to successfully a mission critical network to our customers. You will be joining a highly motivated, close knit and experienced team who are committed to delivering.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide expert advice, input and support to site design teams by conducting risk assessments, engineering assessments and recommending fit for purpose solutions to optimise service outcomes
  • Conduct and manage structural design reviews of infrastructure assets and provide expert recommendations to ensure fit for purpose solutions
  • Provide advice and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders on structural aspects of the infrastructure to enable informed decisions and service level improvements
  • Manage and oversee project sites and associated infrastructure and equipment to ensure compliance with the organisation’s design guidelines and standards to support optimal service outcomes
  • Drive and implement cost-effective structural design solutions taking into account both capital costs and ongoing operational costs to deliver Organisational and Government priorities
  • Oversee and manage the creation, maintenance and implementation of design guidelines and standards to ensure standards, legislative and technical requirements are met
  • Provide direction and governance to internal and external stakeholders in structural design matters, and lead the improvement of guidelines and compliance associated with infrastructure to deliver maximum functionality and achieve business objectives
  • Manage and develop stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to ensure project deliverables are met

Key challenges

  • Maintaining and developing knowledge and understanding of the NSW Government’s needs in a rapidly changing environment
  • Applying experience in relevant industry and applying in-depth knowledge of key Australian Standards for structural design to resolve complex issues to deliver mission critical infrastructure within a complex regulatory environment

About you
To be successful in this role you will have a degree in structural or civil engineering or other related discipline. You will also need to have demonstrable experience in showing leadership when resolving structural design issues, taking all facets of the business into account. Experience within the public safety industry and mission critical networks will be highly valued, along with an ability to apply key Australian Standards to deliver complex mission critical networks.

Essential requirements

  • A degree in structural or civil engineering, or other related discipline.
  • 7+ years experience working on telecommunications projects, preferably involving radio facilities.
  • Expert understanding of key Australian Standards related to telecommunications civil infrastructure
  • Expert in structural analysis.
  • Competent in Computer Aided Design (CAD) including using AutoCad or similar tool.
  • Familiar with a variety of Australian suppliers of shelters, towers and poles, and good knowledge of the cost comparison and pros/cons of various products.

Please Note: Travel may be occasionally required to various locations throughout NSW – typically no more than 5% of time.
